Repurposed Bench Made From An Antique Single Bed
This week I wanted to share a bench we made from an old bed.
The bed is an antique single bed from around the 1930’s or 1940’s. My mom made
this beautiful piece mostly using the bed itself. This was her first attempt at
trying this and I think she did a great job!
She used the headboard for the back and the footboard was
cut in half and used for the sides. I helped her by holding each side steady
and level as she mounted it to the headboard. Once that was finished she used
all the side rails for the front and in making the seat. She used trim to
finish the edges and upholstered the seat. My mom then painted the piece with
this yellow cream color and once it dried she distressed it to give it a shabby
chic look. The best part is she put wheels on it so it can be moved around
easily. I think it looks really good and it is hard to believe she has never
done this before. How do you all think it turned out?

Repurposed Drum Table
This week I wanted to talk about one of our repurposing projects. This piece my mom had a lot of fun making. She found the
drum in this shabby condition and came up with the idea of turning it into a
table. She didn’t tell me exactly what she was going to do and just started to
work on it. It turned out really good.
She started by sanding the sides of the drum to make it more
of a shabby chic. Then took 1940 chair legs and mounted them to the bottom of
the drum to hold it. She cut a hole in the top of the drum and put a clock
inside. Then she had to buy the glass. This was a challenge, but she finally
found one and we were happy it was beveled glass. She made the table so the glass can be taken
off and the clock inside so the batteries can be replaced easily. What a great
way to repurpose an old drum!
